Internet access to our online trading brokerage accounts is necessary to be able to trade online. We, private traders, use Internet as our medium that connects us with our online trading brokers. There is typically one fixed place from where we trade. It can be home office or trading office place, trading room or some other place dedicated to trading. Here we have also best Internet connection available - it can be dedicated line or DSL connection or cable connection. These are best Internet connections for online securities trading.

My online trading brokers also provide Web based stock trade software option. One of my preferred online trading broker - Interactive Brokers - offers Web based solution for trading,too. You can wonder why they offer this option to access online trading brokerage accounts when they have also
standalone application
- Trader Workstation (TWS). I have not thought about usage of their web based option named WebTrader until recently too. I thought that these web based online trading software options are obsolete. But I had to change my opinion. I was on winter holidays in Italy. I have booked hotel with Internet access available as I have to be able to check markets and my portfolio also on during my vacations. Hotel staff confirmed that WiFi high speed Internet access is available in hotel so I expected that there will be easy to use my trading notebook for monitoring of my online trading brokerage accounts. But when I arrived into hotel and wanted to use my standalone trading applications I had found that they are not working. I was shocked little bit. I made some technical investigation and found that Internet provider, that is providing Internet connection for hotel and its guest, has installed some firewall that blocks all unusual traffic flows from and to the hotel Internet network. Now what to do ? I have recalled that my online trading brokers provide also another possibility to access my online trading brokerage accounts. They have Web based stock trade software i.e. some Java applets integrated directly into standard web browser.

I have checked websites of my online trading broker and found the link on the web page. Here is screen-shot of web pages of Interactive Brokers. This is one online trading broker I use for stock and ETF trading on US stock markets. There is link on the right side of their webpage that shows menu with direct link to Webtrader login.
Another screen-shot is from web site of my second online trading broker - Saxobank. I use this online trading broker especially for currency trading (Forex) and
commodity trading.
They have link to access of the web based stock trade software right on top of their home page.
I have used these links and they worked. I was able to access my online trading brokerage accounts by web based online trading software. I was able to check
stock market situation
and how my portfolio performs.
